SureFeed bowls and rear covers: Standard versus Connect compatibility

Compare SureFeed full bowls, split bowls, Connect half bowls and rear covers. Match the accessory to the Standard or Connect feeder before changing the setup.

The short answer

Start with the exact model and the job it needs to do

Genuine full single bowls, including the full steel bowl, are shared across Standard and Connect. The original one-piece split bowl is not the Connect accessory; separate half bowls are Connect-specific. Sure Petcare lists a rear cover for both feeder ranges, but it is a rear-access guard rather than a replacement front lid.

SureFeed accessories are easiest to match when you separate the full bowl, the one-piece split bowl, the Connect half bowls and the rear cover. They do different jobs, and shared branding does not make every insert suitable for both feeder generations.

Here, “Standard” means the original SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder without Connect weighing and app functions. The Microchip Pet Feeder Connect is a different product. The Sealed Pet Bowl is another SureFeed device again; its shared full-bowl compatibility does not give it microchip access control.

Count bowls, compartments and feeder stations separately

A pack containing two pieces can describe two complete full bowls or a pair of half bowls for one divided station. These worked arrangements separate the physical piece count from the number of feeders served.

A two-full-bowl steel pack and a two-half-bowl pack solve different orders. The shared number “two” cannot establish the number of divided feeding stations supplied.

Keep rear covers as a separate line if needed: they address rear approaches, not bowl division or replacement of the moving lid.

Identify the feeder before choosing an insert

Read the product name and label rather than identifying the machine from a white arch in a photograph. Keep the complete name on your refill note. If buying a spare for someone else, ask for a clear image of the feeder label and current bowl arrangement.

The distinction matters most when dividing food into two sections. A moulded divider in one full bowl is not the same accessory as two separate half bowls. A product page using “split” informally may conceal that difference, so compare both the shape and the explicit model list.

Do not use the feeder’s outside width as a bowl specification. The rim, seated height and relationship to the lid matter as well. An ordinary kitchen bowl that appears to drop into the opening has not been established as a supported substitute.

Compare the supported accessories

Accessory Standard Microchip Pet Feeder Microchip Pet Feeder Connect Important distinction
Genuine full single plastic bowl Supported Supported One continuous food compartment
Genuine full stainless-steel bowl Supported Supported Shared full-bowl format; upper sealing rim matters
Original one-piece split bowl Supported Not supported by the maker’s split-bowl listing One bowl moulded into two compartments
Two separate Connect half bowls Not the supported Standard accessory Supported Separate pieces intended for the Connect arrangement
Genuine rear cover listed for these feeders Listed for Standard Listed for Connect Rear-access guard, not the moving front lid

The full bowl is the simplest shared option. For two food compartments on Standard, use the supported one-piece split design. For separate Connect half bowls, choose the accessory specifically described for Connect. Do not swap the latter into Standard because each piece looks like half of the same oval.

A spare full bowl can make daily cleaning easier: remove the used bowl, fit the clean supported spare and wash the first one separately. The selected pack contains two full stainless-steel bowls. It does not contain two half bowls, a feeder or a rear cover.

Inspect the upper sealing rim and the seated bowl position. Food residue around that rim can prevent a clean closure even when the insert itself is correct. Do not press the moving lid against an incorrectly seated bowl or improvise extra spacers underneath it.

Steel is a material choice rather than a guarantee that a cat will prefer the bowl. Some cats accept a familiar plastic insert readily; others may investigate a different finish. Keep the rest of the feeding setup familiar while observing voluntary use, and avoid changing several accessories and the feeder location at once.

Connect: preserve the weighing setup when changing bowls

Connect adds weighing and app-related features to selective access. The selected feeder-only offer needs the compatible Hub for the connected functions; a spare bowl cannot add those functions to a Standard feeder.

After changing the bowl arrangement, follow the Connect manual and app’s bowl-configuration or weighing instructions before relying on portion information. Do not assume a previous bowl setup remains appropriate after replacing a single full insert with separate halves. Confirm the bowl sits freely and that food is not trapped underneath.

A weight display is useful information about food presented or removed within the system. It does not automatically establish which cat consumed every piece, particularly if another animal can reach the food while the authorised cat is eating. Continue observing actual access and normal feeding.

Rear cover: understand what it changes

Sure Petcare lists a rear cover with both the Standard and Connect accessory ranges. Its purpose is to limit approaches from behind the feeding area. It is different from the clear moving lid over the bowl, so a cracked front lid needs its own supported replacement decision.

A rear guard does not guarantee that no other animal can ever reach alongside an authorised cat. Place the feeder with enough comfortable approach space, observe the household’s actual behaviour and adjust the wider feeding arrangement where needed. Do not promise complete food separation solely from adding a cover.

Use the genuine cover’s fitting instructions for the exact feeder. Check that the cat can enter, eat and withdraw without becoming trapped against furniture. Do not create a narrow improvised enclosure around the arch, obstruct the mechanism or block the cat’s only exit route.

If you cannot find an exact supported rear cover on Amazon, retain the manufacturer’s specification and seek the correct part. An unverified third-party cover with a similar outline is not automatically equivalent. There is no reason to replace a working feeder just to obtain an accessory.

Read the care label for the actual bowl revision

Current manufacturer advice describes dishwasher-safe bowl inserts, and the selected new steel set is described that way. Older instructions for some SureFeed products direct hand washing. Follow the care label supplied with your actual bowls rather than extending a new pack’s instruction to every older insert.

The permission does not extend to the whole feeder. Remove permitted washable pieces; wipe the electronic body as directed without immersing it. Mats and lids have their own care requirements, and the current maker guidance keeps them out of the dishwasher. When a bowl’s revision is uncertain, hand wash it and confirm with support.

Dry the bowl and its seating area before reassembly. Clean food residue from the sealing contact without stretching or damaging the rim. If the lid hesitates after reassembly, check seating, cleanliness and the proper operating setup; forcing it closed can obscure the original fault.

Choose the smallest change that solves the problem

For a washing spare, start with the supported full bowl. For two compartments, choose the correct generation’s divided arrangement. For rear approaches, consider the genuine guard alongside placement and observed access. For a broken mechanism or structural damage, consult the feeder’s supported repair options rather than treating a bowl purchase as a repair.

For the wider buying decision, compare microchip cat feeders and timed versus microchip feeders. For cleaning food-contact equipment, the automatic feeder cleaning guide explains why bowl washing and electronic-body care stay separate.

Sure Petcare accessory and care references

The Standard feeder range, Connect range, explicit split-bowl compatibility listing and current cleaning guidance support these distinctions. The older Sealed Pet Bowl manual illustrates why supplied care instructions matter.

Frequently asked questions

Will SureFeed full steel bowls fit Standard and Connect?

Sure Petcare lists the full steel bowl for both Microchip Pet Feeder generations and the Sealed Pet Bowl. The selected pack contains two full bowls, not two Connect half bowls.

Can I put the original one-piece split bowl in Connect?

The maker’s split-bowl accessory listing excludes Connect. Choose the separate half bowls specifically supported for Connect if that is the arrangement you need.

Do Connect half bowls fit the Standard feeder?

The separate half bowls are sold as Connect accessories. Use the supported full or one-piece split bowl for Standard rather than assuming the halves are interchangeable.

Does a rear cover replace the moving lid?

No. The rear cover limits approaches behind the feeder. The moving front lid is a different component and needs its own supported replacement if damaged.

Can every SureFeed accessory go in the dishwasher?

No. Follow the exact item’s supplied care label. Current bowl advice and the selected new steel pack support dishwasher care, while lids, mats and the electronic feeder body have different instructions. Hand wash an uncertain older bowl and check with the maker.
