PetSafe Drinkwell filter compatibility
Match Drinkwell models to flat, round and cylindrical carbon filters, then check the separate foam pre-filter. Includes UK part codes and common ordering mistakes.

The short answer
Start with the exact model and the job it needs to do
Match the carbon shape first, then identify the pump foam separately. Many ceramic Drinkwell models use round PAC19-14088 carbon and PAC19-14089 foam. The 360 uses cylindrical PAC19-14356 carbon; its plastic version needs different foam from the steel version. Follow the exact fountain model and UK manual.
Drinkwell filter compatibility involves two questions: which carbon cartridge belongs in the fountain, and which foam pre-filter belongs around its pump. Solving only the first can still leave you with the wrong part. Several very different shapes carry the same Drinkwell name.
Use the fountain’s complete model and its market-specific manual. A round carbon disc, a cylindrical 360 cartridge and a flat rectangular filter are separate formats. A foam insert is another component again; it is not an alternative way of buying the carbon stage.
Build a parts list for one plastic and one steel 360
Suppose both the carbon and pump foam are due for replacement in a household with one plastic Drinkwell 360 and one stainless-steel 360. Grouping the order by component exposes the shared part and the important exception.
| Component needed for this service | Unit demand | Matching reference | Why the order stays separate | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon for both 360 fountains | 2 cartridges | PAC19-14356 | Shared cylindrical carbon family | [1] |
| Foam for the stainless-steel 360 | 1 foam insert | PAC19-14089 | The steel model is on this foam list | [2] |
| Foam for the plastic 360 | 1 foam insert | PAC19-14508 | Plastic-360 foam; not the steel version | [3] |
The shopping list contains two carbon units from one family but foam from two different families. “Both are 360 fountains” is therefore true for one part and insufficient for the other.
If a pack’s title and count disagree, retain the manufacturer part reference and verify the actual selected contents. Do not calculate the number of complete maintenance sets from a loose “filter count”.

Identify the fountain, not just its material
Read the label underneath the unplugged, emptied fountain. Keep the capacity, model name and full reference together. “Ceramic Drinkwell” narrows the search but does not identify every replacement; “360” also needs the plastic versus stainless-steel distinction when choosing foam.
Some UK and overseas parts pages show different product codes. Use the UK replacement page alongside the instructions supplied with your fountain. Do not assume that a similar US code means a different shape will fit, or that two regional references are interchangeable without manufacturer confirmation.
If a retailer’s title and bullet list disagree, treat the disagreement as unresolved. A product photograph is useful for comparing the format, but the supported model list remains essential. Avoid buying several packs until the first exact match is established.
Match carbon and foam as separate parts
| Fountain family | Carbon format / UK reference | Foam distinction | Ordering trap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avalon, Pagoda, Sedona, Butterfly, Seaside, Streamside | Round carbon, PAC19-14088 | PAC19-14089 where listed for that model | Round carbon is not the 360 cylinder |
| PetSafe 1.8, 3.7 and 7.5 litre fountain families listed by the maker | Round carbon, PAC19-14088 | PAC19-14089 | Capacity must identify the actual supported family |
| Drinkwell 360 stainless steel / Stainless Multi-Pet | Cylindrical carbon, PAC19-14356 | PAC19-14089 | Steel 360 shares foam with several ceramic models, not their carbon |
| Drinkwell 360 plastic | Cylindrical carbon, PAC19-14356 | Separate plastic-360 foam, PAC19-14508 | Its foam is not PAC19-14089 |
| Original / Platinum and other supported flat-filter models | Flat carbon family; match the model’s manual and UK parts listing | Follow that fountain’s own design | Neither round nor cylindrical carbon is a substitute |
| Outlast / Viva | Separate Ion-X family | Use that model’s specified pump filter | The PetSafe name does not make Drinkwell refills universal |
The flat-filter family includes Original and Platinum in PetSafe’s own compatibility information. The UK replacement-cartridge listing uses RF6C-INTL-19; retain the exact manual reference when ordering rather than extrapolating every overseas flat-filter model into a UK fit claim. This guide’s purchase examples focus on the unambiguous round, cylindrical and foam packs below.
Round carbon: a shared family with a defined list
Supported round-cartridge Drinkwell fountains
PetSafe Drinkwell round carbon filters, pack of four
Round carbon cartridges in the UK PAC19-14088 family. Supported models include Avalon, Pagoda, Sedona, Butterfly, Seaside, Streamside and the 1.8, 3.7 and 7.5 litre fountains.
Check: Not the 360 cylindrical carbon filter
View on Amazon ↗This four-pack is the round carbon format. It is relevant when the fountain appears on the maker’s PAC19-14088 list, including the named ceramic models and specified capacity-based fountain families. It is not a general pack for any PetSafe fountain with a circular bowl.
The bowl outline is a particularly misleading shortcut: the steel 360 also has a round bowl but takes a cylinder in its filter housing. Compare the actual holder only after identifying the fountain, rather than assuming the visible outside shape describes the cartridge inside.
360 carbon: keep the cylinder distinct
Drinkwell 360 carbon-cartridge replacement
PetSafe Drinkwell 360 carbon filters, pack of three
Three cylindrical carbon cartridges for the Drinkwell 360 family. The UK maker identifies PAC19-14356 for the plastic and stainless-steel 360 fountains; pump foam remains a separate part.
Check: Does not include a foam pre-filter
View on Amazon ↗The selected three-pack contains the 360 carbon cartridges. Plastic and stainless-steel 360 fountains share this carbon family, but that shared part does not establish shared compatibility for every other component. Order pump foam independently.
When unpacking, check the cartridge remains intact and that it seats as the fountain manual shows. Do not cut open a cylindrical cartridge to transfer loose media into another holder. The casing, seating and intended water path are part of the design.
Foam: the pump stage is not charcoal
Supported Drinkwell pump pre-filter care
PetSafe Drinkwell ceramic and steel-360 foam filters, pack of two
Two foam pre-filters in the UK PAC19-14089 family. Supported models include several ceramic fountains and the stainless-steel 360; the plastic 360 uses a different foam family.
Check: Not a carbon filter
View on Amazon ↗The PAC19-14089 foam family is listed for the stainless-steel 360 and several ceramic or capacity-based fountains. The plastic 360 uses PAC19-14508 instead. This is one of the most useful distinctions to write down beside the fountain model.
Foam catches larger debris before it reaches the pump. Carbon addresses a different filtration task. A listing that casually calls a foam insert “charcoal” does not turn it into a combined carbon cartridge. Read the actual pack contents and do not assume one replacement includes the other.
Replace and reassemble without creating a new restriction
Disconnect the fountain before handling its pump or filter housing. Prepare the new carbon filter exactly as directed, without soap on the media. Clean the fountain and pump separately, rinse the permitted washable parts and inspect the intake for hair.
Seat the correct foam around the intended pump position without squeezing an oversized piece into the cavity. Refit the housing and cartridge in the instructed orientation, check all parts sit normally, then refill before restoring power. Listen and watch for the expected flow; switch off and investigate an abnormal result rather than letting a poorly assembled pump run.
Use the replacement schedule and condition checks for the exact parts. Foam and carbon do not necessarily have identical service intervals. Washing the surrounding fountain also does not restore exhausted carbon. For a complete care sequence, see cleaning a cat water fountain.
Keep a two-line refill note
A useful note contains the full fountain model on one line, then carbon reference + foam reference on the next. Add the pack quantity separately. This prevents “four filters” from being mistaken for four complete carbon-and-foam sets.
When comparing ongoing costs, count each consumable the actual model needs. The fountain running-cost calculator can help with an explicit household estimate once you have the correct parts and prices. Neither a cheaper incompatible pack nor a larger reservoir reduces the need for routine washing.
PetSafe parts references
Use PetSafe’s UK pages for round carbon PAC19-14088, 360 carbon PAC19-14356, foam PAC19-14089, plastic-360 foam PAC19-14508, flat cartridges and Ion-X. The manufacturer’s flat-carbon model list provides the separate overseas family reference.
Frequently asked questions
Do all Drinkwell fountains use the same filter?
No. Common formats include flat carbon filters, round carbon cartridges and cylindrical 360 cartridges. Pump foam is a separate part, and newer PetSafe fountain families may use another system.
Does a steel Drinkwell 360 use the ceramic fountain’s round carbon filter?
No. The steel 360 uses cylindrical PAC19-14356 carbon. It shares the PAC19-14089 foam family with several ceramic fountains, which can make mixed-pack descriptions confusing.
Can I use PAC19-14089 foam in a plastic 360?
The UK maker lists a separate plastic-360 foam family, PAC19-14508. Sharing the 360 carbon cartridge does not establish shared foam compatibility.
Are carbon and foam supplied together?
Not necessarily. The selected examples here are separate carbon or foam packs. Read the exact contents before treating a filter count as a number of complete maintenance sets.
What should I do if the Amazon title and compatibility bullets disagree?
Match the exact manufacturer part and fountain model before ordering. If the disagreement remains, ask the maker or seller for clarification rather than using a similar shape as proof of fit.
