Best window perches for cats
Compare K&H window perches by glass fit, sleeping area, bolsters and suction-cup care. Plan a comfortable route and know when a freestanding perch is a better choice.

The short answer
Choose the support before the sleeping surface
Choose the support first: suitable glass with a maintained suction system, or a stable freestanding perch. The K&H open platform needs more glass area than its sleeping surface; the bolstered version reduces the clear resting space. Check the complete mounting outline, access route and ongoing cup care before buying.
The best window perch is one that fits the window, suits the cat’s resting posture and has a mounting routine you can maintain. A high advertised load limit cannot compensate for unsuitable glass, a poor seal or a difficult route up and down.
The two K&H choices below cover an open platform and a bolstered version of the same broad design. A stable freestanding window bench or low cat tree is an important alternative when the pane is unsuitable or you prefer not to rely on suction mounts. The right answer is sometimes to change the support, not buy stronger-looking cups.
Choose by support, surface and access
| Option | Why consider it | Fit information to retain | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| K&H Kitty Sill EZ Window Mount, single level | Open platform; folds up when unoccupied | 23 × 12 in platform; minimum 24 × 19 in glass area | Requires correct suction installation and ongoing seal care |
| K&H EZ Mount Kitty Sill Deluxe with Bolster | Soft raised edge on the EZ Mount concept | Maker lists 14 × 23 × 19 in overall outline; use supplied installation clearances | Bolster takes up part of the clear resting surface |
| Stable freestanding bench or low tree | Does not depend on a glass suction seal | Measure floor base, window height and a clear approach | Uses floor space and needs its own stability assessment |
The useful comparison is the sleeping surface and the installation you can support. An open platform leaves more clear resting space; a bolster adds a soft boundary. Choose according to the actual window, the cat’s posture and the ongoing mounting care rather than the product name alone.
Open platform: more clear sleeping surface
K&H Kitty Sill EZ Window Mount, single level grey
Best for: An open window platform on suitable glass
A folding steel-frame platform with a removable cover and four suction mounts. The maker lists a 23 × 12 inch platform and a minimum 24 × 19 inch glass area; fitting and continued cup care are essential.
What stands out
- Open sleeping surface
- Folds upward for blinds when unoccupied
Keep in mind
- Suction seals need repeated inspection
- Glass area is larger than the platform footprint
- Platform 58.4 × 30.5 cm
- Minimum glass 61 × 48.3 cm
- Maker-rated whole unit up to 50 lb
The single-level EZ Window Mount has a listed 23 × 12 inch platform, approximately 58.4 × 30.5 cm. Its manufacturer minimum glass area is larger: 24 × 19 inches, approximately 61 × 48.3 cm. The upper mounts and support arrangement need space as well as the bed itself.
This makes the open version worth considering when a cat stretches across a flat surface and the full mounting outline fits one suitable pane. Measure the unobstructed glass, excluding frames, handles and any area that prevents the cups or straps sitting correctly. Do not measure only the wall opening or assume the platform width is the installation width.
The maker gives the installed unit a maximum of 50 lb, approximately 22.7 kg. Treat that as the whole product’s stated limit under its instructions, not an invitation to multiply a marketing claim about individual cups. A comfortable fit, stable access and intact seals still matter well below that ceiling.
Bolstered version: check the usable middle
K&H EZ Mount Kitty Sill Deluxe with Bolster, chocolate
Best for: A bolstered version of the EZ Mount platform
The EZ Mount sill with an added removable bolster. The maker lists an overall 14 × 23 × 19 inch outline; the bolster reduces the clear resting surface compared with the open platform.
What stands out
- Raised soft edge for cats that prefer one
- Same maker’s EZ Mount platform concept
Keep in mind
- Bolster is not a rigid retaining wall
- Confirm glass and strap clearance using supplied instructions
- Removable bolster
- Folding frame
- Washable cover after bolster removal
The Deluxe with Bolster adds a removable soft edge. That can suit a cat that likes to lean against a bed boundary, but the bolster is not a rigid guard rail. It also occupies space that would otherwise be part of an open resting area.
K&H lists an overall 14 × 23 × 19 inch outline for this version. The retailer’s 12 × 23 inch wording should not be treated as the clear space inside the bolster or the complete mounting envelope. Compare the inner resting area and the supplied instructions before deciding a large cat will fit.
The cover can be washed after removing the bolster as directed. Check how readily you can remove and refit it without disturbing the mounts or leaving a strap twisted. A washable surface is useful only if its installation returns to the correct condition afterwards.
Check the actual pane before choosing suction mounting
Suction mounts need the smooth, clean surface specified by the maker. Do not bridge a frame or mullion, fit a cup over a raised pattern, or assume window film and coatings are suitable. If the glass has a coating, damage or uncertain construction, ask the window supplier and perch maker before using it.
Keep the window closed during use unless a separate, properly secured cat-safe system genuinely prevents escape. A perch beside a partly open window can put a cat at the opening more readily. Move blind cords and curtain loops out of reach, and check that a moving blind cannot pull on the perch or trap the cat.
Consider sun as well as the view. A glass-side bed can become uncomfortable in direct sunlight, even in a room that otherwise feels cool. Provide a route away and another resting place. Do not use the perch as a place to confine the cat.
Follow the mounting sequence and inspect the seals
For the single-level EZ Mount, the maker’s instructions show two lower mounts and two upper Push ’n’ Turn mounts supporting the platform with straps. Clean and dry the glass and cups, follow the exact cup preparation and locking sequence, level the platform and maintain even support as illustrated.
Do not replace those instructions with an improvised generic suction procedure. Keep any supplied caps, straps and fittings in their intended positions. A missing or damaged mount is a reason to stop use and obtain supported parts, not to compensate by tightening another strap excessively.
Inspect the seals and condition before use and after changes that may affect them. Dirt, temperature changes, direct sun and repeated use can affect suction. K&H’s care guidance calls for removing, cleaning and reinstalling the cups at least monthly; that scheduled care does not replace an earlier inspection when anything looks wrong.
Allow the cat access only after completing the maker’s installation checks. Do not use the cat’s weight to test a doubtful attachment, and do not improvise a hanging load test or climb on the platform yourself.
Make the route as useful as the bed
A cat should be able to approach and leave without an awkward leap across furniture or a narrow landing beside the glass. A stable lower step may help some cats; others are better served by a low freestanding platform. Keep the landing area clear and avoid placing the only exit where another pet routinely waits.
For older cats or a cat with changing mobility, choose height and access with veterinary advice where needed. A window view does not require a high perch. Compare low cat trees for older cats when a shorter route would suit the household better.

Plan cleaning without neglecting the frame
Remove the cover for the permitted washing cycle and let it dry as directed; the single-level instructions call for line drying. Wipe the frame and inspect the joints and straps while the cover is off. Do not extend fabric washing instructions to suction components or other parts without the maker’s direction.
If cups repeatedly lose their seal despite correct fitting, stop access and investigate the surface, mount condition and supported replacements. The solution may be a different window or a freestanding support. For wider placement decisions, see where to put a cat tree.

Frequently asked questions
How much glass does the single-level K&H EZ Mount need?
The maker lists a minimum 24 × 19 inch glass area, approximately 61 × 48.3 cm. That is larger than its 23 × 12 inch platform. Frames, handles and unsuitable surface areas do not count as clear mounting space.
Can I add the ratings of the four suction cups together?
No. Use the manufacturer’s whole-product limit and installation conditions. Individual cup claims do not create a higher supported capacity for the assembled perch.
Does the Deluxe bolster make the bed safer for a cat that might fall?
The bolster is a soft comfort edge, not a rigid fall-prevention barrier. Choose a suitable height and easy access, and use a lower freestanding support if that better suits the cat.
Can a window perch go over privacy film or textured glass?
Do not assume so. Follow the maker’s surface requirements and check with the window supplier where coatings or films are involved. A frame, texture or unsuitable coating can prevent a reliable suction seal.
How often should I check suction mounts?
Inspect them before use and after relevant temperature or surface changes. K&H also calls for removing, cleaning and reinstalling the cups at least monthly. Stop use immediately if a seal, strap or frame is doubtful.
